We have been considering adoption for a while now, and the plight of orphans in Eastern Block countries just tears my heart.
We found a little girl with Down Syndrome that we want to adopt. Her name is Priscilla (at least that’s the name we can use for her, as we can’t use her real name to protect her identity). She is 2 1/2 years old and was born with a heart defect that has been repaired.
She struggles with respiratory illness (she’s had pneumonia 4 times already!) and is behind in development, even for a child with Downs. Her breathing sounds very “junky,” just like Esther’s did before we started thickening her liquids to reduce/eliminate aspiration. She is just now learning to sit by herself. She also has extreme laxity of joints and excessive flexibility.
We are excited to use what we have found to be helpful for Esther to bless her too. I am hoping that with thickened liquids, proper diet, using essential oils and breathing treatments. having her wear a “hip hugger” like Esther did, doing regular therapy to strengthen and direct her muscles, and having so many loving siblings to interact with her all day long, she will improve rapidly in our home!
International adoption is so very expensive! We have enough funds to get the ball rolling. We have begun our home study and hope to have that complete in the next 6 weeks or so. We have also sent in our commitment papers to the country where Priscilla lives. Once we complete our home study we will be compiling our dossier (big stack of papers) that will be sent to her country to officially apply for her adoption. These papers will need to be accompanied by roughly $6000. This we do not have at this time. There are some adoption grants that we can apply for once our home study is completed, but most of them do not make the funds available until after our dossier has been approved.

Our 4 year old, Esther, who has Down Syndrome is scheduled to have her tonsils and adenoids removed on Monday (to try to help her with her sleep apnea). We will be having this done at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and the plan is for a minimum of one night down there. Children with Down Syndrome have an average hospital stay of 4 days, and up to two weeks.
You patience and prayers are appreciated while I am away from home and caring for her as she recovers. We will still be able to ship out orders, so please go ahead and order away, but it might take us a few days extra to get them shipped out.

We had ran out of Bluebell, our most popular color, during the summer, but we have it back in now! We’ll be restocking nearly every product in this color in the coming weeks!
